How to measure your child's feet to buy shoes

    1. Grab a tape measure or ruler
    2. Stand your child against a wall with their heels right up against the wall
    3. Make sure their feet are straight and flat on the ground
    4. Measure the distance from the wall to the end of the biggest toe, in mm
    5. Repeat for the other foot - usually one is bigger than the other, it's normal!
    6. Use the biggest measurement and add 8 to 10 mm of ''wiggle room'' for regular shoes and 10 to 12 mm for school shoes. This gives you the inner sole measurement of the shoe size you need to buy.
    7. Each size of our shoes will list the inner sole measurement next to the size.
    8. Note that the sizing can vary between different styles of our shoes [a size 24 in one style is not always the same in another style]. This is due to different molds being used to create the sole for different styles. So please check the measurement for the size each time!

Examples: Biggest foot measures 150 mm for a toddler. Look for a shoe size that is 158 - 160 mm for regular shoes.
Biggest foot measures 200 mm for a school child. Look for a shoe size that is 210 - 212 mm for school shoes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kids' Shoe Sizing

No. Unlike what many parents assume, there is no universal children's shoe sizing standard used by all footwear brands in Australia.

This means a size 8 in one brand may not have the same internal length as a size 8 in another brand.

For the most accurate fit, we recommend measuring your child's feet, allowing 8–10mm for growth (10-12mm for school shoes), and matching that measurement to the inner length of the shoe.

Children's shoe sizes aren't standardised across brands. A size 8 in one brand may fit differently to a size 8 in another because manufacturers use different shoe lasts and sizing systems.

There can also be differences in sizing between styles, so sandals vs boots vs sneakers.

That's why we recommend measuring your child's feet and comparing the measurement to the inner length listed for each Surefit shoe.

There isn't a standard shoe size for a particular age.

Children's feet grow at different rates, so two children of the same age can be several shoe sizes apart.

The best way to find the right fit is to measure your child's feet and compare the measurement to the inner length of the shoe.

Current shoe size can be a starting point, but it shouldn't be relied on as the only measure.

Sizing varies between brands and shoe styles, so measuring your child's feet is always the most accurate approach.

We generally recommend allowing 8-10mm of growing room in regular shoes, and 10-12mm in school shoes.

This gives your child enough space for comfort and natural foot movement while allowing room for growth.

    Not necessarily.

Like most footwear brands, Surefit uses its own sizing specifications. The best way to choose the correct size is to use the inner length measurements provided for each shoe rather than comparing size numbers across brands.

The inner length of the shoe provides a more accurate guide than a general size number.

By comparing your child's foot measurement (plus growing room) to the shoe's inner length, you can choose the size that is most likely to fit comfortably.

    Yes.

It's common for one foot to be slightly larger than the other. We recommend measuring both feet and using the larger measurement when choosing a size.

If your child's measurement falls between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size to allow for comfort and growth.

Children's feet can grow quickly, particularly during the toddler and early school years.

    As a guide:

    • Babies and toddlers: every 2-3 months
    • Preschool children: every 3-4 months
    • School-aged children: every 4-6 months
